Berita7 |Tangerang, Indonesia — July 23, 2025 . In a strategic effort to curb youth unemployment and enhance workforce readiness, the City Government of Tangerang has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three prominent companies aimed at strengthening job placement opportunities for vocational high school graduates.

The agreement, spearheaded by the Tangerang Manpower Office (Disnaker), was formalized on Wednesday and involves two leading finance-sector firms and a major player in the retail industry. The initiative is designed to create a direct recruitment pipeline between the corporate sector and **60 specialized Job Placement Centers (BKKs) housed within local Vocational High Schools (SMKs) across Tangerang.

“Today marks an important step in our commitment to accelerate job matching, especially for fresh graduates,” said Ujang Hendra Gunawan, Head of Tangerang’s Manpower Office.

“The cooperation will ensure that each BKK is aligned with real-time industry demand, providing companies with skilled candidates ready for direct employment.”

As part of its long-term labor strategy, the Tangerang City Government has prioritized job market alignment to reduce the city’s open unemployment rate. With the youth demographic comprising a significant portion of job seekers, the government is focusing efforts on integrating education with workforce needs through industry collaborations.

“This isn’t just a one-time agreement,” Ujang added. “We envision a recurring collaboration model where students who pass company recruitment tests can transition directly from school to employment.”

The program reflects Tangerang’s broader agenda under its Smart City vision, which includes digital job market platforms, labor skill certification, and regional labor market forecasting.

The MoU, while limited to three companies in its initial phase, is designed to serve as a template for future expansion. City officials expressed optimism that more companies—particularly in technology, logistics, and manufacturingbwill soon join the program.

“We appreciate the commitment shown by the participating companies,” Ujang noted. “This partnership proves that private sector engagement is critical in creating inclusive and sustainable employment solutions.

With the unemployment rate among Indonesian youth still a concern post-pandemic, Tangerang’s proactive measures represent a replicable model for other municipalities. By facilitating direct job placement pipelines, the city hopes to reduce the skill-employment mismatch while boosting household economic resilience.

The City Government also pledged to continue expanding labor access, improve career readiness programs, and ensure that all stakeholders including students, educators, and employers benefit from a more connected and responsive labor system.

As Southeast Asia’s urban centers grapple with shifting labor demands, Tangerang’s public-private initiative underscores the importance of local governments taking the lead in building adaptive, youth-focused employment ecosystems.

“This is a future-looking investment in our human capital,” Ujang concluded.

“With the right support, we can turn education into opportunity, and opportunity into prosperity.”
